Nova Varos is a mountain settlement located at the foot of Zlatar with buildings built in a row, on a slope oriented to the south and in the cut. It was established as a road-type settlement in the 16th century. The original name Skender-pasha Palanka was given after the founder, while the name Nova Varos has been mentioned since the 17th century.
Most of the old city buildings of significant cultural, historical and architectural heritage were built at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Most of the buildings of old architecture and folk architecture that have preserved the authentic appearance of today’s Novo Varoš Bazaar are concentrated in the main Karađorđeva Street.
In the center of the bazaar, not far from the mosque, in Zoran Djindjic Street, there is a house built in 1870 by the rich aga Tahir Seceragic. Divanhan dominates the first floor of the house and reminds us of the time when it was built.
The houses of trade and craft families: Borisavljević, Cucić, Tomić, Popović, Ristić, Kulić, Stevović, Purić, Tripković and Hadžimuterzić are lined up along Karađorđeva Street. At the end of the old bazaar in the main street, there is one of the oldest houses, built in 1861, which keeps the memory of love and life and war story of Ljubica Ristic and military doctor, Armenian Serkez Berberian.
